« Silver Apples are THE electronic group of all time… Silver Apples are to electronic music what Thomas Edison is to Facebook. » – Trebuchet Magazine
« Silver Apples… a beautiful and mysterious artifact. » – New York Times
« Simeon invented electronic music as we know it. He still commands an instrument of his own design, a hodgepodge of controllers, wires and oscillators that bear his name. And watching the man transform the contraption so seamlessly into an extension of himself, all of us in that room are reminded how all those years ago, in this very city, a new sound emerged from an outsider’s curiosity and daring. » Justin Joffe, The New York Observer about Nov. 2, 2016 performance in Brooklyn

PORTISHEAD Geoff Barrow: “I was introduced to Silver Apples by Adrian Utley from the band; he found the album at Good Music in New York. When he first bought it, he actually thought it was modern, because it was just extraordinary. It didn’t really click with me the first time I heard it. Speaking to Simeon, I was just hugely influenced by, and interested by, the way he had an amazing musical but non-musical ability about him — like tuning and the noises and the lack of “music” proper. It was outer-space music, if you know what I mean. It’s the kind of thing Public Enemy would have sampled. They most certainly did at some point, you know what I mean? Making punk music, but with folk, and the idea of a singer who is using traditional-sounding songs with these extraordinary jazz and electronic sounds. Three stylistically different pieces of music being shoehorned in such an incredible way. That’s what really interested me.” (Westword http://bit.ly/2lwgoH7)

“They were one of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, driving beat and frequently discordant modality, anticipated not only the experimental electronic music and krautrock of the 1970s but also underground dance music and indie rock of the 1990s.”
